    "Luxury" motor homes, are more like matchbox motor homes. No structural frame, or any type of safety/security body. It's built to last as long as caulk holding it together.

      They are incredible solid. You can see some of them after 30 years and more still driving around. It's a clever construction where even the closet and bathroom walls play a part in the stability. Overall it makes these vehicles a lot lighter than comparable ones made in the USA. We in Europe are eager to save energy by lightweight construction. Fibreglass and XPS foam are very rigid, the metal frame at the bottom is very strong. Not easily being realized by laymen, though.

      @HolgerJakobs These are a death box on wheels. Have you ever witnessed an rv accident? The engineering technology exists to build them light and safe. However rv companies are well known for building cheap, leak prone, and dangerous vehicles. Profitability is important, but cutting corners and safety be damned, shouldn't be acceptable. More competition is needed in this market.

    Back in 1998-2000 I worked at a large Recreational Vehicle Facility that hand built the frames and suspension for their 60' diesel motor homes.
    Everything was built within 3 miles from the main assembly line. Engines, Transmissions, and the sort were delivered right off the railway.

    Although I would prefer to see more structural elements included in the construction of the motorhomes, I wish the American manufacturers took the time and effort to construct our motorhomes with thd quality they used to have and reduc the prices significantly. Today there is too much corporate greed while forgetting the quality in the American MotorHome industry!

    And they still haven't fixed a damn leak in the roof

    these specific RV's are not luxury RV's. these are mass produced bargain basement RV's. the exact f'ing opposite of luxury...these are consumer goods. They're built on a FIAT, for crying out loud, the 3rd largest economy car company in the world.
    luxury RV's are custom built and have actual luxury finishes and construction...not plastic and glue. real wood, real metal, real chrome, real veneers... alloy frames for the body, commercial grade chassis, brakes, and drivetrain...that sort of thing.

    • @HolgerJakobs
      @HolgerJakobs 8 дней назад

      True. If you want real high-end motorhomes, look for Volkner in Wuppertal. "Volkner-Mobil | Reisemobile der Extraklasse". They cost at least a million € as opposed to the price of the Knaus shown here for less than 200.000€.

    A hundred thousand euro. That's cute. Look up American "class A" luxury motorhomes. You might be lucky to find one for that price, second hand. Most are 3-5 times as much. Washer and dryer, full kitchen, garage, fireplace. Not uncommon for them to weigh 12-15 tons.
